Nasal breathing vs mouth breathing – how the different ways of breathing affect your health and your emotional world

There is one aspect of health that is so commonplace that it is hardly ever consciously noticed - which is precisely why it is so often underestimated: breathing. Of course you know that fresh air is good for you. That hiking in the mountains or by the sea is good for you. But the crucial question is not which air you breathe in - but how you breathe in the first place. And even more specifically: Do you breathe through your nose or through your mouth? This one question - as simple as it sounds - has far-reaching consequences for your entire organism, for your nervous system, your immune system, your sleep, your emotional state and even your self-esteem.

Know your fears and know what makes you feel safe! Why healing is only possible when we feel safe

By |2026-05-21T05:11:41+02:00May 21st, 2026|Basics, Endocrine system, Immune system, Intestinal health, Mitochondria, Natural help, Nervous system, Psyche, Stress, Tips & Tricks, Vegetative nervous system|

What actually makes you ill? And what keeps you healthy? These questions sound simple - and if you really look into them, they almost always lead to the same place: the autonomic nervous system. And to two states that decide everything: Fear and safety. In my practice, I meet people every day who work, who persevere, who try many things - and who still don't really recover. Not because the therapy is wrong. But because a crucial step is missing: looking inwards. Getting to know your own fears. Knowing what feels safe to you. Because without this knowledge - and this is not a metaphor, this is neurobiology - the body cannot heal.

The power of singing – and what it does for you

There are moments when a song can do more than any pill. An old pop song that suddenly comes on the radio and immediately lifts your spirits. A song that you hum while cooking without realizing it - and suddenly your inner tension is a little lighter. This is no coincidence. Singing is one of the oldest and most underestimated health practices we know. And the great thing about it is that you don't have to have a good voice to benefit.

The vagus nerve – your inner reset button to find your center again

There is a nerve in your body that is as old as life in community. A nerve that has sensed whether you are safe - or not - long before you had speech. Whether you can open up - or whether you need to protect yourself. This nerve is the vagus nerve, and it is far more than just an anatomical detail from a biology book. It is something like your inner conductor, your seismograph for safety, your silent mediator between soul and body.

Saffron! How the red gold helps you to protect your innermost being, alleviates your fears and brightens your mood

There are plants that grow silently and inconspicuously, and then there is saffron. The delicate purple flowers of Crocus sativus only open for a few hours in the fall - and hidden inside them are three red threads that are among the most precious substances in the world. One kilogram of real saffron requires the manual harvesting of around 150,000 flowers. That sounds like luxury, cuisine and exoticism. But what traditional medicine has known for thousands of years and modern research is increasingly confirming goes far beyond the spice cupboard: saffron is a medicinal plant of extraordinary depth.

Heart rate variability measurement (HRV)

By |2025-03-19T21:10:40+01:00December 14th, 2017|Blog, Mitochondria, Not categorized, Stress|

The heart rate variability measurement shows us how well our autonomic nervous system is set up. Roughly speaking, our autonomic nervous system consists of two parts - the sympathetic nervous system (tension) and the parasympathetic nervous system (relaxation). The autonomic nervous system can be seen as a higher-level control center that uses nerves to control and regulate processes and functions in the body - more precisely: our organs and organ systems - and at best keeps them in a certain balance.

The autonomic nervous system

By |2025-03-19T21:10:51+01:00December 11th, 2017|Basics, Not categorized, Organs & Systems, Stress|

The autonomic nervous system is one of the two systems that the body uses for communication between organs. The second system - the hormonal system (endocrine system), communicates, as the name suggests, via hormones, while the autonomic nervous system communicates via nerves. It is also referred to as the autonomic nervous system because it acts and reacts involuntarily, i.e. it is not subject to our will, but acts independently, quasi unconsciously for us and can hardly be consciously influenced by us.
